LG Optimus 7 won’t be making the jump to Windows Phone 7.8?

Despite initial anticipation for Windows Phone 7.8 hitting every device currently running WP 7.5, the LG Optimus 7 looks like it won’t be attending the party.

The Korean manufacturer were certainly eager to push into this exciting new ecosystem when they offered the LG Optimus 7 as one of the first Windows Phone 7 handsets in the market, but their interest soon waned as the mobile OS didn’t attract the attention Microsoft had promised it would.

LG Poland customer response

The Windows Phone 7 powered Optimus 7 was for all intents and purposes, the same as the competition at the time with regards to the majority of specs, as WP7 was a limited OS to breed variety. As with the rest of the Windows Phone family released before Q3/Q4 this year, the LG did thankfully made the jump to Windows Phone 7.5 which featured some long overdue improvements, but it looks like for owners of this unusual smartphone, the journey may stop here.

HTC and Samsung haven’t said anything to contradict the notion that their first WP7 handsets: the HD7 and Omnia 7 will be making the jump to Windows Phone 7.8, but LG Poland told a user earlier today that the Optimus 7 probably won’t be so lucky.

Loosley translated, the company’s response, which was quoted on wp7.com.pl reads:

Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting our customer.
Kindly inform you that it is not expected to introduce software update for your version of the E900 to 7.8.
If you have additional questions, please contact us again.
Sincerely,

We can’t use this as confirmation that the LG Optimus 7 won’t receive the update anywhere, but we’d find it strange if the company invested time and money into producing such an update and then decided to leave it out of a select group of markets for no clear reason.
