LG Optimus LTE features ‘true HD’ IPS display and HD Movie Editor

LG has announced that the forthcoming Optimus LTE, so far only announced for the South Korean market, is the first phone to feature a ‘True HD’ IPS display. The Optimus LTE features a big 4.5-inch screen that has a resolution of 1280 x 720, also known as 720p.

IPS, or In Plane Switching, is a type of display technology which gives LCD screens improved viewing angles, as seen in the super-sharp screens of the iPhone 4 and now the iPhone 4S.

The iPhone 4’s Retina Display boasts a high resolution of 960 x 640 pixels and a PPI (pixels per inch) count of 326.

By contrast, the Optimus LTE’s screen commands not only a higher resolution, but also a slightly higher PPI – 329 to be exact. The screen is also a full inch bigger measured across the diagonal.

LG is also saying that the Optimus LTE will boast ‘true natural colors’ and an HD Movie Editor that’ll allow you to ‘create personalized HD videos quickly and easily’.

Sounds impressive on paper; let’s hope that LG truly have something here that can rival Apple’s iMovie on the iPhone 4.

Let’s also hope that the LG Optimus LTE gets to see the light of day on these shores, perhaps under a less 4G-centric name.
