What is the LG V20 smartphone, what are the LG V20’s specs and when is it coming to the UK? Here’s everything you need to know about this premium new LG mobile phone.
What is the LG V20?
Back in October 2015, we got rather hot and bothered about LG’s V10 mobile phone, an innovative premium handset that launched over in Asia. This 5.7-inch beast boasted a tiny second screen over the main display (a feature since aped by the far inferior LG X Screen), a dual-lens selfie camera and manual controls for shooting video. Sadly this gorgeous and feature-packed phone never made it to the UK, breaking our fragile little hearts in the process.
But all may be forgiven in 2016 as LG prepares to launch its V10 follow-up, appropriately titled the V20. The LG V20 could be one of the best Android phones of the year, and according to leaks will be a premium handset just like the V10. Here’s what we’ve heard so far.
When will the LG V20 be officially launched?
Early word of mouth suggests that LG will launch the V20 on September 6 2016, although there’s no official confirmation from LG just yet.
What are the LG V20 specs?
Again, all we know about the LG V20’s specs are rumours rather than facts. But so far it sounds like the V20 will be an awful lot like last year’s V10. Leaked specs so far include:
5.7-inch screen with Quad HD resolution (2560×1440)
Secondary screen (size and resolution unknown)
Snapdragon 820 processor
21-megapixel rear camera
8MP dual-lens front camera
LG V20 vs LG V10 vs LG G5: What’s the difference?
The V20 sounds like a direct follow-up to the V10 with slightly modernised specs. As before you get a 5.7-inch screen with a 2560×1440 wQHD resolution, although the V10’s Snapdragon 808 processor has been boosted to a Snapdragon 820 for the V20, the same chipset found in this year’s flagship LG G5.
By comparison, the G5 features a smaller 5.3-inch screen but it’s a chunky monkey thanks to the ‘modular’ expandability, so there shouldn’t be much between these handsets in terms of dimensions and weight. If anything, the V20 will probably be skinnier.
Like the V10, you can once again expect a dinky secondary always-on display positioned just above the V20’s mighty main panel. This should provide handy shortcuts to your favourite apps as well as notification alerts, ensuring you never need to turn on your phone just to check for messages.
All three phones sport very different camera tech. Last year’s V10 boasted a solid and dependable 16-megapixel rear camera plus a funky 5-megapixel dual-lens front-facing camera which could shoot a wide-angle selfie (we refuse outright to use the word ‘groufie’). The LG G5 switched things around, with a standard 8-megapixel selfie camera and a new dual-lens rear camera, made of an excellent 16-megapixel snapper plus a unique 8-megapixel wide-angle lens.
The V20 is said to stick with the V10’s camera setup, although the lenses get boosted to a 21-megapixel rear snapper and dual 8-megapixel shooter around the front.
What is the LG V20 UK price and release date?
The LG V20 doesn’t have an official UK launch date or asking price just yet but we’re expecting the phone to actually make it to British shores this time around. Here’s hoping that we’ll see it on UK shelves come October 2016.
