Business professionals around the world rejoice – at last you can keep up to date with your peers, competitors and myriad recruitment agents from your BlackBerry with the LinkedIn BlackBerry app, out today.
There’s already a LinkedIn app for iPhone and Palm Pre, so we can’t help but wonder what took the LinkedIn folk so long, especially since the BlackBerry is traditionally the handset most associated with business types. Still, better late than never.
We’ve had a play with the free app and the layout is very reminiscent of Facebook for BlackBerry. If you’re connected to a lot of people who’ve set their Twitter accounts to update on LinkedIn, then the homepage looks a lot like a Twitter feed with just the odd person showing up as ‘Jeff has an updated profile’.
From the home screen you can also search for a contact, browse through your existing connections (alphabetically by surname), go through your pending invites and your message inbox. It also suggests people that you may also know – usually second-tier connections. You can also integrate LinkedIn with your BlackBerry email, calendar and contacts applications if you’re running BlackBerry OS 4.6 or later.
But what’s particularly cool about access to LinkedIn on the go, is that you can instantly make connections as you meet people – then you don’t need to worry about misplacing their business card, losing their number or remembering the face but not the name or company. So many people have a BlackBerry as their work handset, it makes perfect sense to have a dedicated LinkedIn app for this kind of thing.
LinkedIn for BlackBerry is available to download from either the website or BlackBerry App World. You’ll need a LinkedIn account and a BlackBerry Curve or Bold handset running OS 4.3 or later.
