Ever wished you had an independent source to tell you how much a London taxi will cost to get you from A to B? Yes, there is inevitably an app for that. It’s called London Taxi Meter, and it’s just been released.
It asks you where you are, where you want to go, and then calculates how much it should cost, using official Transport for London taxi tariffs. It even factors in the time of day, according to the pricing tiers used by cabbies.
The app saves your recent destinations, and lets you set somewhere as your home locations. It’s free for the moment, although the developer Conjure warns that this is only for a limited period.
So, get the app on your iPhone, and then tell taxi drivers whether they’re ripping you off or not, right? Well, it’s a bit more complicated than that. The app’s blurb warns that it only provides guide prices, since “traffic, roadworks and other factors may affect the price you pay for your journey”.
