Macate Genio phone in a nutshell: Specs, UK price and release date

Security-conscious consumers in the UK will be well served by the Macate Genio, a smartphone boasting top-level encryption and other features to keep you safe online, when it launches here later in 2017. Here’s all you need to know about the Macate Genio, including full specs, the UK price and release info.

Who is Macate?

Macate Group is a Silicon Valley cybersecurity corporation founded in 2001, which has expanded beyond its US roots to overseas markets, including the UK and parts of Asia.

Macate designs and creates secure software and hardware, to keep you and your data safe online. For instance, one of the company’s products is Netme, an app which offers encrypted messaging between mobiles.

What is the Macate Genio?

Macate has already stepped into the smartphone hardware market with the Genio handset. This mid-range mobile offers quite basic specs, although also boasts some smart and unique security software. And the big news is that the Genio is coming to the UK in 2017.

Macate Genio features

As you can see from the above specs, the Genio appears to be a rival to cut-price Android handsets like Sony’s Xperia L1 and the Moto G5. You get a basic Mediatek processor backed by 2GB of RAM, as well as a 720p HD screen and Android Nougat on-board. The 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel selfie snapper can capture your life and shoot up to 1080p Full HD video.

Nothing particularly remarkable so far, especially given the Genio costs more than those other phones. However, Macate is hoping to sway pundits with the software side of things.

The Genio comes packing some strong custom security features, to keep prying eyes away from your conversations and private info. The device’s Advanced Encryption Standard of 256 is the highest level available right now to consumers, while the phone can automatically adjust the encryption grade to remain compliant across different countries.

You also get Macate’s NetMe app pre-installed, although this app is free to download and use on any Android phone via the Google Play store.

Macate Genio UK price and release date

We don’t have a specific UK release date for the Macate Genio just yet, although we know the phone will hit UK stores ‘later this year’. The Genio will cost £249, making it an affordable option for anyone who values secure communication. You can pick it up in four colours: Black, White, Champagne and Light Gold.
