Forget Infinity Blade, Rage HD or FIFA 11. What you really want to be playing on your iPhone or iPad is a game that’s nearly 30 years old. Really.
Remember Manic Miner? It sold more than five million copies on the ZX Spectrum in the early 1980s, and has now been rebooted for iOS devices by publisher Elite Systems.
If you already own their ZX Spectrum: Elite Collection app, you can buy Manic Miner within that. However, it’s also available as a standalone version on the App Store, with a HD edition for iPad.
(Yeah, ‘HD’. We’re not quite sure how that works for retro 8-bit games, but there you go…)
You can play the game in portrait or landscape modes, with definable joystick and keypad controls. 20 rooms are included, and it is likely still as b*****d hard as the original. Consider it a challenge to your pampered modern gamer sensibilities.
