Maxell has introduced a multimedia device designed to turn your TV into an Android-compatible smartphone.
Named the Android Multimedia Box (MMB 300), we spotted the box at the Digital Winter technology event yesterday.
Connecting to your television via HDMI or Component, the Multmedia Box is a media streamer running Android 2.2. Enabling you to log-in using your Android account details to access your Android apps on a big screen.
It comes with a wireless QWERTY keyboard you can use to type email and messages, play games and surf the internet via a full web browser.
The MMB 300 also functions like a media streamer. Playing back music, movies and photos. It can play back a range of music formats including:MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AAC, AMR, M4A, as well as MP4, AVI, MKV, MOV, WMV, FLV and MPG, either via a USB key, portable storage device, or via a SD card.
Full 1080p HD is a welcome bonus too. While an External DVB-T Digital Tuner also lets you watch Digital Terrestrial television channels.
WiFi and Ethernet support is on-board and you can stream from a network via a PC/Notebook or NAS device.
Powered by an 800 Mhz ARM Cortex processor with 512MB RAM, the ARM Mali-400 Graphics processor supporting 3D Graphics Processing – such as eBook pages turning.
There’s no news on pricing yet for the Maxell Android Multimedia Box, but it will be out in the new year.
