Microsoft Surface Pro may arrive this year following poor Surface RT sales

Microsoft’s first own-brand tablet arrived in the market just over a month ago and despite excited anticipation and the industry awaiting to see the effect of the new products influence on the market with baited breathe, the Surface RT tab has failed to meet Microsoft’s expectations, possibly spurring on an early release of the Surface Pro tablet.

The current Surface runs Windows RT, the stripped-down tablet-centric version of Windows 8 and was designed to take on the likes of Apple’s iPad, meanwhile the Surface Pro which was originally scheduled to arrive next year, runs the fully fledged Windows 8 operating system, and rather than ARM, is based on Intel architecture inside.

According to PhoneArena, ‘upstream supply chain sources’ have reported that Microsoft recently decided to reduced the orders for the Surface RT by half, down to just two million, following poor uptake of the new tablet. Windows RT as an operating system has not only been shunned by consumers, but many manufacturers are holding off on producing their own RT devices in favour of the full-fat Windows 8 OS.

With such a disappointing response to the first Surface, Microsoft are said to be changing their game plan, by introducing the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, before the new year. The tablet was initially on track for a February launch, however it will now likely make its debut sometime in December. We haven’t heard confirmation from Microsoft directly on this, but we aren’t discounting this possibility based on this recent news.
