UPDATE: The Motoroloa Moto E has now been launched, check out our full Moto E hands-on review
Motorola’s Moto E is set to launch on May 13, and we can’t wait to get our hands on this great-value follow-up to the awesome Moto G, still one of the best mid-range mobiles around. Here’s what to expect from the specs, UK price and release date…
We’re hitting Motorola’s big launch event tomorrow morning (kick-off at 9am), and we’re hoping to see two new smartphones unleashed – a powerful new flagship called the Moto X+1, and Motorola’s follow-up to the incredibly-priced Moto G, known so far only as the Moto E.
Motorola’s recent Moto G and Moto X were solid all-round phones, showing the troubled phone manufacturer is back at the top of its game…
Motorola Moto E specs
We’ve already seen a photo of the Moto E leaked by a user on Motorola Mexico’s Facebook page (see below), which seems to confirm that the new budget phone will be a 4.3-incher, just a tad smaller than the 4.5-inch Moto G. We’ve heard it’s just 6.2mm thick too, so no doubt it’ll be light in the hand.
On the insides, we’re expecting a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, unlike the Moto G’s quad-core chip. The Moto E should comfortably handle the basics, such as messing around online and keeping up-to-date with social media.
A 5-megapixel rear camera will most likely feature the exact same tap-anywhere-on-screen-to-shoot functionality as Motorola’s previous models, and for an affordable phone it should be one of the better snappers around. However, from the shot above, it appears that a front-facing lens might be omitted entirely. This could of course just be a pre-production model, but perhaps Motorola has ditched the selfie-cam to shave off some extra pennies?
Expect the usual 8 to 16GB of storage space, but we’re excited to hear that Motorola has added a microSD memory card slot to the Moto E, something sadly missing from the Moto G. So now you can expand and carry around tons of apps, games and media wherever you roam.
Motorola Moto E UK price and release date
While the official UK release date and price won’t be revealed until May 13, we’d expect the Moto E to be available by the end of the month to a range of providers, and the price is likely to come in around the £100 mark. Check back tomorrow for our full Moto E coverage and hands-on review.
