In addition to announcing the Lumia 925, Nokia has also revealed that an update for exisiting Lumia Windows Phone handsets will arrive soon. The update – dubbed “Amber” – will bring some of the Lumia 925’s features across to already available Lumia handsets such as the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820. Expect to see the new Smart Camera feature, as well as FM radio support and other enhacements.
Curiously, all of Nokia’s Lumia devices have FM radio functionality save for the Lumia 620 – it was just never accessible by customers. The Amber update will finally change that by enabling the radio. The update will also bring the Smart Camera modes found on the Lumia 925 to Nokia’s other Windows Phone handsets, allowing users to take stylized photos or simply pick out the best snap from the app’s burst mode.
Other than that, Nokia is staying tight lipped on what the update will bring. The Verge believes, however, that Amber will bring “double tap to wake” functionality to both the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. That’s a feature that so far is only available on the just announced Lumia 925.
