Nokia announces firmware update for Lumia 800

Nokia has announced an software update for the Lumia 800 smartphone available to UK owners in the next couple of weeks.

Launched last month the Nokia Lumia 800 is (of course) the company’s first Windows Phone handset. Called: version 1600.2479.7740.11451 the update isn’t major, and appears to bring a few minor tweaks.

  • Charging improvements
  • Voicemail notification improvement
  • Replying to mail improved for Microsoft Exchange 2003 users
  • Improved audio quality
  • Fixed screen issue after calls in bright light

According to Nokia Conversations: ‘the number of simultaneously downloads has to be limited’ so the update will take two weeks to roll out in countries that currently sell the Lumia 800.

As with previous updates, the update needs to be installed via the Zune software, although we’d advise ticking ‘Notify me when new updates are found’ from Settings – Phone update. This way you’ll received a message when the update is available.

In 2012 Nokia will be bringing further updates to the phone. If rumours are correct by then we’ll be getting the Nokia Lumia 710 as well – the ‘affordable’ Windows Phone handset.

Find out more information about the update and how to get it from the Nokia product support pages.
