Nokia Lumia 800 video review

Over the last few years, it’s fair to say that Nokia has seen its position in the UK smartphone market eclipsed by Apple, HTC and Samsung.

This year under new CEO Stephen Elop, the company announced it was ditching Symbian (at the high end), to embrace Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

The first fruit of that collaboration was finally revealed in October at Nokia World, in the shape of the Nokia Lumia 800.

With a body near-identical to the Meego-equipped N9 (a phone sadly not destined for these shores), the Lumia 800 is a stunning handset With soft curved edges and individually engineered volume control, credit to Nokia for creating a phone that manages to be stylish, well-built and distinct to other phones on the market. With black, pink and cyan versions available.

Inside the Lumia 800 is powered by a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 processor, with 512MB RAM. The 3.7-inch screen incorporates AMOLED technology for deep blacks and high contrast. There’s a camera on-board too, with an 8-megapixel resolution that can capture 720p HD movies.

The Lumia 800 hit stores in November and although Nokia is keeping tight lipped, early signs indicate it could be a big success.
