Nokia N9 countdown timer disappears from Swedish site, September 23rd launch in doubt

MeeGo fans who’d booked flights to Malmo on the 23rd of Septmeber might want to think about getting a refund; the timer over on Nokia’s Swedish site that previously hinted at a release date for the Nokia N9 has disappeared into the ether.

There’s still no word of a release date for the Nokia N9 in the UK, or confirmation that it’ll even be sold on these shores. The closure of Nokia’s UK online store earlier in the year means that if you’re going to get the N9 anywhere here, it’s going to be from one of the networks or a reseller live Clove or Expansys.

Nokia last week told us that this Expansys pre-order page for the N9 wasn’t totally legit and should be disregarded. We were also told that the page was in the process of being taken down, but days later, it’s still up.

Another possibility for an N9 UK release date now is the 26th or the 27th of October, i.e. during Nokia World 2011. The main reveal for that is almost certainly going to be the Sea Ray or N10 or whatever Nokia decides to call its first Windows Phone 7 phone. Still, given the press attention the N9 has recevied here in the UK, it’s possible that the N9 will be announced alongside the Sea Ray. Only twelve weeks ‘til we find out for sure.
