Handing over a voucher when you order your six-inch sub could soon be thing of the past. Selected O2 customers will be sent discount vouchers via MMS and to redeem the voucher, users simply hand in their smartphone or tablet to be scanned at Subway stores.
For the first time O2 customers who have opted into the company’s ‘More’ location based text service will be alerted to Subway offers via a text message when they are in the vicinity of a local store, which can be used in-store to save money. The technology works by using ‘geo-fences’ around Subway store.
The partnership is part of O2’s location based text service and is the first time O2 has used scannable vouchers.
Simon Wallwork, of SUBWAY® Stores said, “We are delighted to be the first retailer to offer consumers the barcode recognition mechanic combined with a location-based texting service. In conjunction with Subway’s commitment to contactless payment, this advance demonstrates our dedication to providing an innovative consumer experience. ‘
To receive the messages, customers will need to be signed up to the O2 More programme, which includes a selection of exclusive discounts.
