O2 launches Twitter MMS service: 86444 to send a twicture message

O2 has launched a new Twitter MMS service that allows you to send picture messages to Twitter from any phone capable of supporting picture messaging.

Aimed at non-smartphones or any phone that doesn’t come pre-loaded with a dedicated Twitter app (like Nokia Conversations on phones like the C2-01), this allows pretty much everyone on O2 with a Twitter account to tweet pictures on the go.

This works by simply sending a picture message to the number 86444.

To set the service up, you first of all need to log in to Twitter on the web and link your mobile number.

Go to Settings > Mobile on your Twitter profile and you’ll see drop downs and a space to enter your number. The +44 code is already added, so make sure to drop the first ‘0’ of your number.

O2 says that picture messages will be charged at the standard rate (25p) or will simply come out of your bundle if your contract includes an MMS allowance.
