Official: Samsung Galaxy S2 HD ‘not coming to the UK’

Samsung has just told us that the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD we heard about this week won’t be coming to the UK.

The Galaxy S2 HD boasts most of the same specifications as the original S2; you get Android 2.3 Gingerbread and an 8-megapixel camera that shoots 1080p video.

The big difference is the screen. It’s a 4.6-incher that has a resolution of 1280×720 (720p), taking a leaf out of the Galaxy Nexus book.

Unlike the Nexus, the S2 HD’s screen is a Super AMOLED, which’d give you better legibility in outdoor light. Just as well it’s coming out in Australia then…

Other differences include the processor – it’s a 1.5GHz Snapdragon chip opposed to the 1.2GHz Exynos rig of the S2. There’s an NFC chip bunged in for good measure. Pending an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, you’d be able to tap to share high definition video clips with mates using Android Beam.

Unless you’ve got friends living down under who’ll snap one up and ship it out to you, don’t expect to see the S2 HD over here any time soon though.

Update: when we first posted this a while back we later heard of a report claiming that the Galaxy S2 HD actually was coming out in the UK.

Given that we’d heard straight from Samsung spokespeople in the UK first that it wasn’t coming and then checked with network and retailer sources (who also gave us a thumbs down) we decided that was that and the Galaxy S2 HD wasn’t coming out over here.

We checked again with Samsung and retailers including Clove and Expansys (who’d be likely to sell a phone like this unlocked and SIM-free) and again we were told that there’s no immediate plans for the Galaxy S2 HD to be released in the UK.

So pending a surprise reveal at Mobile World Congress or a change for heart from Samsung, the Galaxy S2 won’t be officially released in the UK.
