An official Twitter app has just landed in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace and we duly installed it on our HTC HD7 and gave it a whirl. It’s really impressive; it looks great, is simple to use and is and easily on par with the Twitter apps we’ve seen for iPhone and Android devices.
Refresh, tweet, DM and search messages are all easily accessible at the bottom of the timeline screen. Scrolling between your timeline mentions, DMs and lists is smooth and looks nice but can suffer from occasional lagginess if you scroll too fast.
Its really easy to add pictures to tweets from your gallery or to add a fresh picture by tapping the camera icon. Tapping on URLs in people’s tweets automatically fires up Internet Explorer on your phone and takes you to the page. A simple tap of the back button returns you to the Twitter app.
It’s a shame that you can’t yet add your Twitter followers to your contacts stream in the People menu but we imagine that’ll be something that gets a look in in the future. Otherwise it looks great and does the job and it doesn’t cost you a penny.
Twitter for Windows Phone 7 is available now either from the Marketplace on your phone or to download via Zune on your PC.
