Official Wimbledon 2010 app volleys its way onto iPhone

Is it me, or are us Brits a bit less Wimbledon-crazy this year? It’s probably because we’re using up all of our ‘getting wildly over-excited about winning something even though we know deep down that it will end in tears at the semi-final stage’ energy on the World Cup, and there’s none left over for Andy Murray.

Even so, Wimbledon kicked off this week – or whatever the tennis equivalent of kicking off is. And the All England Lawn Tennis Club has launched an official iPhone app to let people follow all the action live over the fortnight.

You can scan currently-playing matches for score updates, browse match results and the daily schedule of play, get news updates and peruse the draw for the singles.

However, there are also some whizzier features, including on-demand video highlights, tweets and Radio Wimbledon – which sadly doesn’t feature The Wombles, but happily also doesn’t feature Cliff Richard. Much. Better still, the app is completely free.
