On-demand video service Qriocity set to arrive on Xperia phones in August

Sony Ericsson Xperia phones are set to get Sony’s on-demand video service Qriocity, starting from the start of August.

With deals with the likes of Twentieth Century Fox, Universal I, Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures (naturally) Sony Ericsson promise on their blog that all the “ latest releases” will be available alongside an extensive back catalogue.

This will be in addition to the Qriocity Music Unlimited app, which we’ve already played with.

The service will first arrive on two as-of-yet unreleased phones, the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro in nine countries that include the UK, the US, Japan, France and Germany.

The service will be exclusive to Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets released this year, and will find it’s way onto the Xperia arc, Xperia Neo, Xperia Play, Xperia Pro, and the currently Japan-only Xperia Acro through a (we assume over-the-air) software upgrade later this year. The app will be downloadable from the Android Market.

The mid-range Xperia Active and Xperia Ray will also get the Qriocity service when they launch.
