The jump to Android 7.0 Nougat is a notable gearshift for a number of reasons. On the surface, it brings new native functionality like spilt-screen multitasking into the mix, a great feature that leverages the screen real estate of both the 3 and 3T.

Some extras are harder to see, like Doze on-the-go, which should help stretch both phones’ already solid battery life out even further. Tie into all that bug fixes for both Android and OxygenOS and the update already makes for a worthwhile download.

Beyond that, the most obvious new additions are cosmetic or stylistic changes. The notifications pane features a mild redesign that moves away from the look of stock Android to something more distinctly in line with OxygenOS. Multiple notifications are now grouped by application and expandable in their groups too.

Dive into the new cyan-accented settings menu and you’ll find options to hide or show select icons in the status bar, resize on-screen content including the amount of text and apps per row and learn that repeatedly tapping the overview button now lets you toggle between the last two apps opened.

OnePlus 3/3T Nougat update: Verdict

Overall these new features mainly focus on improving functionality and upping the individuality factor of OxygenOS atop Android Nougat without straying so far from previous incarnations that they alienate users.

If you haven’t yet picked up the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, you should be able to summon it OTA by heading into the ‘update’ section of your settings menu or heading to the ‘downloads’ section of OnePlus’ website.
