OnePlus 3: In A Nutshell

The OnePlus 3 has been officially launched and here’s everything you need to know about the OnePlus 3’s specs, features and how to buy one in the UK, plus how the new 2016 flagship phone compares to last year’s OnePlus 2.

How does the OnePlus VR Loop work?

The OnePlus 3’s official unveiling has taken place online, in the Loop VR space. This is a VR app that you can download for your phone right now, and check out using any standard VR headset that your phone slides into.

OnePlus 3 VR the launch

Inside the OnePlus VR Loop you can check out the phone in all its glory and learn more about the features, as well as buy a OnePlus 3 of your own. All you need to do is travel to the three different areas from the Space Office lobby and read the three different signs in each area. This unlocks the Loop Badge for each location. With all three Loop Badges unlocked (look down to check your progress), you can return to the VR Loop ‘Office’ (again, look down for the transport link) and see all of the OnePlus 3’s specs and buy your handset.

What are the OnePlus 3’s specs?

The OnePlus 3 packs a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED screen, boasting rich colours and sharp visuals to compete with rival handsets like the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. Beneath the screen you’ll find a home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor, just like the HTC 10 or Samsung Galaxy S7 fingerprint scanners. And the gorgeous aluminium frame is impressively thin at just under 8mm, with looks that rival the HTC 10 and the Xperia X.

Powering the OnePlus 3 is the latest Snapdragon 820 processor, also found in premium phones like the LG G5 and HTC 10, backed by a very impressive 6GB of RAM. Expect insanely smooth performance no matter what you do, including blasting through the lastest games.

Rounding off the OnePlus 3 specs is a 3,000mAh battery, which is predicted to last close to two days by OnePlus. There’s also support for OnePlus’ impressive-sounding fast charge tech, which gives you 60 percent charge in just half an hour while keeping the phone nice and cool.

As for the cameras, the OnePlus 3 sports a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie cam, complete with smart HDR and smile shutter.

How does the OnePlus 3 compare to the OnePlus 2?

The OnePlus 3 is just as big as last year’s 5.5-inch OnePlus 2, although also slimmer and with a much more attractive metallic frame. You’ll get better performance thanks to the new Snapdragon 820 processor and 6GB of RAM, while we’re expecting the camera tech to be a step up too.

What’s the OnePlus 3 UK price and release date?

The OnePlus 3 is already available to buy exclusively through OnePlus’ Loop VR store, but from 8pm UK time you will be able to buy the OnePlus 3 from its online store, OnePlus.net. And the good news is, you won’t need an official invite; anyone can buy the OnePlus 3, as long as stocks are available.

While there’s no official word on a UK price, the OnePlus 3 is selling from $399 US for the 64GB model. Using that as a guideline, we reckon the phone will come out here for around £349.
