OnePlus 5T vs Huawei Mate 10 Pro: Which 6-inch smartphone is best for me?

We compare two six-inch feature-packed flagship smartphones, the OnePlus 5T and Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro, to see which of these gorgeous premium handsets is best for you.

The new OnePlus 5T is another fantastic flagship phone from the Chinese manufacturer, offering premium specs and sleek design work for as little as £449. One of the biggest updates is that enlarged 6-inch screen, a result of the seriously slender new bezels surrounding the display.

In fact, the OnePlus 5T looks rather similar to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, another 6-inch smartphone with tiny bezels. At least, from the front. The Mate 10 Pro sports a very different look and feel around back thanks to its glass surfacing, while also offering full water resistance. Both mobiles serve up a fingerprint sensor on the rear end, while the OnePlus 5T can also be unlocked using the smart face recognition feature.

Android is the OS of choice in both cases, although Huawei’s phone boasts the latest Oreo version as well as the heavy EMUI overlay. EMUI 8 adds loads of new features to Android, including a smarter split-screen mode, one-handed help, plenty of customisation and even the ability to turn your phone into a portable computer.

While the OnePlus 5T doesn’t alter Android quite so heavily, the OxygenOS interface does also improve one-handed use and add some gestures and bonus personalisation options. You also get a nifty gamer mode and the Shelf shortcuts desktop. Check out our OnePlus 5T tips and tricks guide to see more.

Both blowers pack a top-end chipset for premium performance, as well as plenty of memory for smoothly running your apps and blasting through games. You also get a minimum of 64GB of storage space, which in neither case can be expanded via microSD.

As for the camera tech, both the OnePlus 5T and Huawei Mate 10 Pro serve up a capable dual lens snapper on the rear. The Mate 10 Pro is slightly more capable in low light, although both devices offer strong photo results across other conditions, while they can also shoot good-looking video up to 4K resolution.
