Sorry to mention the festive holidays in the midst of summer, but when OnePlus teases a new phone, we tend to sit up and pay attention.
We’re still reeling from the arrival of the new OnePlus 2, which has already garnered over a million invite requests and is set to launch on August 11th, but the company’s second handset and the one they’ve already confidently dubbed ‘the 2016 flagship killer’ may not be the only one set to arrive in 2015.
During an interview with USA Today, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei hinted at the development of a second smartphone, as well as envisaging a three-horse race between Apple, OnePlus and Samsung in five years time.
When asked about plans to produce another smartphone this year, Pei said, ‘There’s going to be a second phone this year, before the end of the year. Hopefully for Christmas.’ Naturally the 25-year-old businessman wasn’t prepared to give out any more information on the device, stating that it ‘may or may not be (higher spec’d than the OnePlus 2).’
Pei also revealed that a prototype of the mysterious device already exists and that he’s torn between using it and the new OnePlus 2 as his daily driver.
We’re still waiting to get our hands on the new OnePlus 2, but now we’re left wondering about what else the Chinese smartphone-maker might be cooking up behind the scenes.
