Is Chinese brand Oppo set to unleash the greatest smartphone camera ever, rocking a mighty 50-megapixels?
Seemingly set to deliver pixel power at a whole new dizzying height, the little teases over at all-capitals name-shouter, OPPO, have let slip a tantalising snapshot taken on their forthcoming Find 7 smartphone; a snapshot that suggests the megapixel ante has been upped again… to a whopping 50!
You have to feel sorry for former Finnish frontrunner, the Nokia Lumia 1020 – one minute you’re the undisputed king of the smartphone snappers with an untouchable 41-megapixels up your digital sleeve, then, without even a warning shot across your bow, suddenly up pops a new Chinese contender apparently offering an extra nine to whip off your crown and usurp your USP.
At least that’s what appears to the case. But as we know, a picture paints a thousand words, so there’s a good chance that some of those words are fibs…
The posted, Ford-focused pic causing all the hoo haa, appeared with the meaty dimensions of 9.7MB in size and a humongous resolution of 8160 x 6120, suggesting that the camera that captured it is packing a sensor akin to the Eye of Sauron. Also bagged in Barcelona, scene of last week’s Mobile World Congress conference, according to the online image-investigation experts, this would seem to lend some credence to the 50-megapixel claims.
However, with all other Find 7 ‘facts’ currently sketchier than a broken Etch-A-Sketch, and Oppo itself saddled with a reputation for massaging the figures prior to a launch, to stir up interest amongst the usual social media suspects, the sneaking suspicion is that the Ford may have been fixed somewhat after the fact. Is this a case of aperture-based exaggeration? It’s all speculation, but we really hope the camera is fully legit, as we already can’t wait to give it a go.
If the suspense is too much for you, the good news is that an official announcement on the new Oppo is due on March 19th, so we’ll have the full picture soon…
