Panasonic introduces Myspace TV app for TVs, smartphones and tablets

Panasonic has announced a partnership with Myspace to bring a Myspace TV app to selected connected television sets, bringing a more social experience to television at home and on-the-go.

Coming to market across Viera Connected enabled TV, with the boast ‘we’ve made tv as its best,’ MySpaceTV is part of Panasonic’s web-based TV offering and is accessed via a button on the TVs remote.

Users will be able to watch content and interact with friends across multiple platforms, rating what they see and leaving comment. Myspace TV will also have a companion app, so users can continue to interact when out and about using their smartphone and tablets.

Justin Timberlake took to the stage to launch the service, which will initially focus on music, with My Space’s catalogue of 100,000 music videos and 42 million songs. In the future other genres – such as movies, sports and reality will be added.

Timberlake said: “We’re ready to take television and entertainment to the next step by upgrading it to the social networking experience. Why text or email your friends to talk about your favorite programs after they’ve aired when you could be sharing the experience with real-time interactivity from anywhere across the globe.’

Myspace TV is due to launch in the first half of 2012.
