Photos leak revealing Sony Mobile smartphone trio

Photos and details have leaked of not one, but three Sony smartphones, the Sony ST21i ‘Tapioca,’ Sony LT29i ‘Hayabusa’ and Sony LT30i.

The NXT family currently consists of the Sony Xperia S, P and U, with the Sony Xperia sola waiting in the wings. What we have here are three more devices, all expected to arrive sometime this year, so let us bring you up to date on what we know about Sony’s secret phones.

Sony ST21i ‘Tapioca’

We’ll start with the smallest, the ST21i. Although talk of the Tapioca as Sony’s new entry level handset has been around since the end of last year, it’s only now that photos have surfaced showing off the device in all its glory. acquired these shots of the device sitting next to its big brother the Xperia S and the design appears to take cues from the sola.

Xperia ST21i

The hardware contained within the Sony ST21i reflects its entry-level status, expected to use an 800MHz processor, an Adreno 200 GPU, offer up 512MB of RAM, a 3MP camera with SD video recording, a 3.2-inch display, a 1460 mAh battery all powering Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 from launch.

Sony LT29i ‘Hayabusa’

As with the Sony ST21i, talk of the Hayabusa dates back to last year with hardware speculations remaining relatively unchanged. The Hayabusa will be stepping in to replace the Xperia S, offering up a newer 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, a 4.55-inch Reality Display, a 2200mAh battery and a thickness of just 7mm, according to

The latest development is that the camera sensor has changed. Initially thought to be offering up a 12MP unit, the latest developments state that the LT29i will in fact utilise a ‘stacked’ 13MP unit. The ‘stacked’ translating as improved low-light performance and HDR video recording as demoed here:

Expect the LT29i ‘Hayabusa’ to allegedly be unveiled in June this year, with sales starting the following month.

Sony LT30i

This is the most mysterious of the three unannounced devices. Featured on a leaked Sony Mobile device roadmap, the LT30i is expected to be the company’s first quad-core device, the chipset destined to fill these boots is still unknown, but no doubt we’ll learn more in the coming months. Alongside a dose of quad-core, the LT30i will also offer a 4.3″ OLED display. As far as design goes, the only frames of reference we have are these Sony Ericsson concepts from last year, but in all honesty, if the LT30i comes out looking like any of these, we’ll be happy.

For now, that’s all we can give you, but by the sounds of it, Sony is gearing up for a bumper year with a lineup as competitive as any of the leading rivals. Roll on 2012 we say.
