You don’t need a flux capacitor to go back in time. Right here on Recombu, we’re heading back to the year 2000. A time when Robbie Williams was a thing that people enjoyed and the Nokia 3310 was released.
This was a phone that had all the cutting edge tech, such as a built-in calculator, stopwatch and text messages – the Nokia 3310 was particularly loved because it could send texts that were 459 characters long, clearly the height of human achievement.
But the 3310 also rocked the ultimate mobile game, which made a million bus journeys more bearable. A game that caused thousands to fail their GCSEs or neglect their significant others. That game was ‘Snake’.
Although Snake had appeared in various guises over the years, it was Snake’s appearance on the 3310 that firmly cemented the game in people’s hearts and minds. We have painstakingly recreated a virtual Nokia 3310 complete with Snake, for you to play right here. Forget your PS4, Xbox One and Oculus Rift. This is true gaming at its finest.
How to play
It’s easy to play Snake, but you should be warned that it’s harder than Dark Souls. All you have to do is click ‘New Game’ on the phone and then use your cursor keys to move the ‘snake’ and eat up the ‘fruit’ (basically blocks which pop up on screen). Each block you hit increases your score and the size of your snake, but be careful not to run into the walls, or your own cursed tail.
So have a go if you think you can handle it! Take a screenshot and leave a comment if you can beat our amazing high score of 103. But a word of warning, it’s addictive so we take no responsibility if your boss/teacher/authority figure catches you playing when you shouldn’t be.
