Prestigio Multipad 9.7: iPad-sized Android 4.0 tablet for £160

Think that Apple’s the only 9.7-inch tablet maker in town? Think again; Prestigio has announced the Prestigio Multipad 9.7, an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet that proudly wears its screen size on its sleeve.

As well as coming with 9.7-inches, the capacitive display also features IPS (in-plane switching) technology which reduces light scatter and generally makes for some sweet viewing angles.

Over on the back there’s some nice looking fingerprint-resisting black rubber (we were genuinely shocked that it wasn’t curved aluminium) which provides a bit of grip and extra protection.

Other specs, according to Engadget, include 8GB of storage, a microSD slot, mini HDMI. There’s a single-core ARM Cortex A8 chip (1GHz) backed up by 1GB of RAM. Notebook Italia (who nabbed some hands-on time at CeBIT last week) is saying that the price of the Prestigio Multi 9.7 will be €199 (£160) when it goes on sale in Italy in May – no word of it coming to the UK just yet and there’s no mention of it (so far) on Prestigio’s product page.
