The original Real Racing remains perhaps the best racing game on iPhone and iPad, thanks to its mix of eye-popping graphics, a deep career mode, online tournaments and YouTube-uploadable replays.
However, it’s just been knocked off its perch by… Real Racing 2. The sequel came out today, and it improves on its already-impressive predecessor in almost every area.
There are 30 fully licensed cars to drive, and a promised 10 hours of gameplay in the career mode, which takes in time trials, head-to-head races, elimination drives and other tournaments. You can race in 15 different locations, with a varied mix of tracks.
Beaten that? Go online. You can compete in 16-player online races, or if you have enough iPhone-owning mates, set up an eight-player local Wi-Fi competition. Game Center is supported too, for time trial high-score tables.
It looks beautiful. It handles like a dream. And while we’re secretly hankering after Real Racing 2 for iPad – we’re assuming that will follow next year – for now this is top dog in the iOS racing game world.
