Recombu Awards 2014 are tonight, here’s the shortlists…

At 7.30pm on Thursday November 6th, the huge Recombu Awards 2014 ceremony kicks off in Mayfair, London – but which phones and tablets have been shortlisted for these treasured trophies?

Well, there are four trophies up for grabs, which will be dished out to the very best mobile tech from 2014. Without any further piddling about, here’s the full mobile shortlists…

Best Phone 2014

The Best Phone category is always hotly contested, but 2014 has been an outstanding year for mobile tech. Twelve mobiles are up for this award and any of them could win, as each is a brilliant handset packed with its own unique and awesome features.

From the Galaxy Note 4, with its sleek stylus control, to the Xperia Z3 Compact which offers an unbeatable combination of power and portability, the Best Phone category is a full-on grudge match – but as we all know from Highlander, there can be only one, so which will it be?

Best Tablet 2014

Another tough category, and it’s great to see so many iPad competitors that can now hold their own against Apple’s mighty tablet. The likes of the Galaxy Tab S and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact proved in 2014 that Android tablets can be just as sleek, sexy and feature-packed, while the Surface Pro 3 and Transformer Book T100 add extra value with their dockable keyboards, making them just as good for staying productive as buggering around on t’internet.

Best Value Phone 2014

Huawei Ascend G6 4G/EE Kestral Nokia Lumia 635 Motorola New Moto G (2014)

It’s all well and good celebrating the sexiest smartphones of the year, but what about those costing closer to the £100 mark? The Huawei Ascend G600 (rebranded as the EE Kestrel in the UK), Nokia Lumia 635 and Motorola Moto G all offer incredible value for money and a slick all-round experience, thanks to impressive budget performance, capable cameras, sharp screens and some impressive features.

Best Accessory 2014

Mobile tech isn’t just about the phones and tablets we use; it’s about the sexy bits we hook up to them too. Wearables have become massive in 2014, and now even pointless celebrities are elbowing into the fray with their own gizmos. But can the likes of the Moto 360 and LG’s G Watch snatch victory from Bluetooth giants Jabra, Bose and Beats?
