Here’s a nice little video showing off some of the multi-media possibilities of RFID-enabled smartphones – with a hefty RFID reader attached to the back of an iPhone, physical objects with digital tags trigger commands via the handset’s camera. In this example, the figurines trigger media content; so when Moomin Mama is scanned, a clip of the Moomins cartoon plays.
We had hoped, given Apple’s patent, that RFID readers might make an appearance in the iPhone 4; guess it didn’t fit in with the whole slimmest-smartphone-ever thing. Still, there’s always hope for iPhone 5. In the meantime, here’s how to make your own. [via designboom]
