RIM handing out premium apps to appease BlackBerry owners

Following a week plagued by service interruptions and outages, RIM has announced that it’ll be handing out premium apps to customers as a way of saying sorry.

From this Wednesday the 19th of October onwards up until the end of the year, the following apps will be free to download from the BlackBerry App World:

  • SIMS 3
  • Bejeweled
  • N.O.V.A.
  • Texas Hold’em Poker 2
  • Bubble Bash 2
  • Photo Editor Ultimate
  • DriveSafe.ly Pro
  • iSpeech Translator Pro
  • Drive Safe.ly Enterprise
  • Nobex Radio™ Premium
  • Shazam Encore
  • Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant

Additionally, business customers will be able to get one month of Technical Support for free, with those already paying for the service able to claim a complimentary one month extension of their existing contract.

“Our global network supports the communications needs of more than 70 million customers,” said RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis. “We truly appreciate and value our relationship with our customers. We’ve worked hard to earn their trust over the past 12 years, and we’re committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect, today and in the future.”

To say that last week was a bad week for BlackBerry owners was an understatement; access to services such as BBM, BlackBerry email and the internet was intermittent, with services collapsing in parts of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and parts of South America.

On Friday, the company announced that “BlackBerry services continue to operate at normal levels.” We’ve been able to confirm this ourselves as we were able to access BBM on our Curve 9360 on Friday night.
