BlackBerry owners just got a new app from Research In Motion: BlackBerry Podcasts. It’s only available in the US and Canada for now, but we’re hopeful for a global release.
The app lets you search for podcasts from its catalogue, and download them to listen to using the BlackBerry media player. The service works over 3G or Wi-Fi, and is free to use.
As you’d expect of a RIM-developed app, BlackBerry Podcasts ties into some of the BlackBerry features – including push. You can subscribe to individual podcasts, and get a push alert when a new episode is available to download and listen to.
Episodes can be stored on microSD card too, to ensure you don’t run out of space. In North America, the likes of Bloomberg, Discovery Networks, Reuters and The Onion are already on board. Hopefully RIM will bring the app to the UK, and make sure it signs up the likes of the BBC.
