Samsung Galaxy Music announced: Stereo speakers and an inbuilt projector

Samsung have spent the last few months focusing on their premium device line, with the Samsung Galaxy S3, the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Galaxy Note 2 all grabbing headlines throughout 2012 thus far, but now they’re introducing a new mid-range name into the mix: the Samsung Galaxy Music.

What features does the Samsung Galaxy Music offer?

The Samsung Galaxy Music isn’t your typical mid-range handset but draws from two USPs which the company have used individually in the past from devices such as the Samsung M7600 Beat and the Galaxy Beam. That is to say the Galaxy Music features both a set of stereo speakers on the front and a WVGA 9 lumens projector on the top. What’s more, some markets will be offered a dual-SIM version of the Galaxy Music called the Galaxy Music Duos.

  • Screen: 3-inch QVGA display (320×240)
  • RAM: 512MB
  • Storage: 4GB internal with up to 32GB microSD support
  • Camera: 3-megapixel fixed focus
  • Audio: Dual front-facing stereo speakers, stereo FM radio, ‘Sound Alive’ and SRS audio enhancements
  • Projector: 9 lumens WVGA (800×480) at 1W
  • Connectivity: 3G, GPS, WiFi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0
  • Battery: 1300mAh
  • Dimensions: 110.1x59x12.25mm
  • Weight: 106.9g

Which operating system does the Samsung Galaxy Music run?

To bring a nice level of polish to the Galaxy Music, Samsung have laden Android Ice Cream Sandwich over the top of the handset’s modest internals and integrated a dedicated hardware music key which launches the phone’s music player when pressed.

What are the alternatives?

Depending on the angle at which you approach the Samsung Galaxy Music, there are a number of suitable equivalent devices from within Samsung’s own handset portfolio. The Samsung I8530 Galaxy Beam is the obvious choice as an alternative projector-laden smartphone, which as its name suggests offers an nHD (640×360) inbuilt projector, a dual-core 1GHz processor and 5-megapixel camera. Meanwhile if the Galaxy Music is a little too fussy for you, then the Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 shares a lot in the way of internal hardware specs, save for the projector and the dual stereo speakers.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Music launch?

Samsung are yet to announce availability for the Samsung Galaxy Music and in which markets it and its dual-SIM brother will be launched. We’re awaiting confirmation on UK availability from Samsung and we’ll update you when we hear any more.
