Samsung Galaxy Neo announced: Latest Galaxy Family member fits in with the rest

At this rate, Samsung’s Galaxy Family range of Android phones is set to become the mobile equivalent of the Osmonds.

Earlier this year, the Galaxy Ace, Mini, Fit and Gio all turned up at once and last week we heard tales of the Samsung Galaxy S+ (or S Plus, however you want to stylise it).

The latest arrival to the fold is the Samsung Galaxy Neo. Announced in Korea, this phone’s specs are consistent with those which we’ve seen from the Galaxy Family: the Galaxy Neo runs on Android 2.2 Froyo, has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera (no flash) and an 800MHz processor.

All well and good, but we can’t help but we wish Samsung had picked a better name. There’s really not much to differentiate this from the Samsung Galaxy Gio, which has a slightly different design (an iPhone-style trim round the edges) and a slightly smaller screen (3.2-inches). Otherwise the specs are virtually identical.

Then again, we may never see the Galaxy Neo arrive on these shores – it’s possible that this is a Korea-only deal.

No information has been released about pricing or a global release just yet. We’ve contacted Samsung here in the UK and are waiting to hear back.
