As well as trumpeting ETA dates for the next generation of BlackBerry phones, Clove has gone and announced pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Note, the super-big phone/mini Android tablet that we got to have a brief play with at IFA last week.
Clove is offering the Note, which runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has an 8-megapixel camera and 16GB of internal storage for £600 (or £500 ex VAT).
This could be a big ask for what’s essentially a massive phone. £600 prices it way above the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which is sits somewhere between.
As it runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the 2.0 branch of the OS that’s designed for phones, the Note won’t immediately benefit from any of the Honeycomb-optimised apps, at least not until Ice Cream Sandwich hits.
You do get that rather nice Smart Pen stylus which works with an HTC Flyer-esque note taking program called S Note. So obviously some of that £600 goes into covering the cost of this.
And then there’s that screen, an HD Super AMOLED with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and 285ppi.
The 8-megapixel camera can record 1080p video at up to 30fps and the Note supports video playback at the same top resolution and frame rate as well. Video should look pretty incredible then, on this 5.3-inch screen.
Everything is powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core chip and there’s a microSD slot so you can flesh out the memory as well.
There’s no denying that the Samsung Galaxy Note is a powerful bit of kit, but is it worth that much?
