Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich: When is it coming to O2, Orange, T-Mobile Three and Vodafone?

So, Samsung won’t be unleashing the delicious Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for Galaxy S2’s in the UK until next Monday the 19th of March. Pish and fiddle we say.

Grumbling aside, it’s worth noting that the 19th will be the absolute earliest release date for the Android 4.0 update – i.e. when unlocked, unbranded Samsung Galaxy S2’s will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich.

This means if you’ve bought your 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus dual-core beast on contract from O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Three or Vodafone then there’s a possibility that you’ll have to wait awhile until network testing is complete.

The final part of any Android update is the network testing. This is a quality control check done by the networks to make sure an update won’t brick or lock down a feature of a phone (like Wi-Fi or GPS).

We’re asking various sources at the networks for details on when Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be headed to Samsung Galaxy S2’s.

We’re waiting to hear back at the moment and aren’t expecting anything concrete just yet, but this is the page we’ll be updating once we hear anything new. So if you’re keen to hear of when Ice Cream Sandwich is headed to the Galaxy S2 on your network, be sure to check back here.

O2

No word from O2 on the Samsung Galaxy S2 getting Ice Cream Sandwich just yet.

Orange

Ditto Orange – we’re waiting to hear back.

T-Mobile

Update: a T-Mobile spokesperson contacted us to say: “We’re working to make our build available as close to Samsung’s release date as possible.”

So expect the 19th of March or at least a few days after.

Three

Three currently has no info on the Galaxy S2 upgrade for the UK.

Vodafone

Vodafone has just got back to us with the following: “The Android 4.0 upgrade for Galaxy S2 smartphones running on the Vodafone UK network is currently under test to make sure that we provide the highest level of final software. As soon as the tests are completed we will upload the software to the update servers as quickly as possible.”

Vodafone has consistently been pretty good with its Android updates in the past. We’d expect given the track record, that the Ice Cream Sandwich update can’t be too far behind the 19th of March launch date.
