Samsung has anticipated this; yesterday it announced the Galaxy S Advance, a mid-range Android phone that comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor. The first signs of dual-core for the masses perhaps.
But where does that leave the Samsung Galaxy S2? Sure other phones will come out this year which’ll run rings round the S2. But it’s still a great phone with many hidden depths.

Samsung Galaxy S2: Best contract deals
The cheapest 24-month O2 contract where you get the Samsung Galaxy S2 free is a £37 deal, giving you 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.
On 18-month plans, the best tariff that gets you a free Galaxy S2 on O2 is £37 a month, where you get 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.
On all of these contracts, you can expand the 500MB data cap to 1GB for an extra £4 a month. [link]
The best value Orange 24-month plan which sees you getting a Galaxy S2 for free is the £36 a month Panther plan – 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of internet.
On 18-month plans you can get the same amount of minutes, messages and data for £41 a month. [link]
Currently, you get at the Samsung Galaxy S2 for free on a £35.75 deal which nets you 900 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB of data.
If you don’t fancy a full 2 year contract you can get the same deal on an 18-month basis for £40.85 a month instead.
If you’re thinking of picking up the Samsung Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile, you might want to wait until the 24 month Full Monty contracts arrive. On these everything-unlimited plans, you’ll be able to get a Samsung Galaxy S2 for free for £36 a month on a contract that gives you 2000 minutes, unlimited T-Mobile minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data. Three’s 24 month The One Plan sees you picking up the Samsung Galaxy S2 for free and paying £35 a month. This gets you the all-important All You Can Eat unlimited data, 2000 minutes, 5000 Three minutes and 5000 texts.
If you’re not much of a talker, you can instead pay £33 a month and get 500 minutes, 5000 texts and the same unlimited All You Can Eat data.
Sadly for fans of 18 month relationships, there’s no Galaxy S2 plan on Three to suit you. [link]
Vodafone has currently got the Samsung Galaxy S2 going free on a 24 month deal that gets you 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data. As well as this, theres 2GB of monthly access to BT’s Openzone Wi-Fi network.
On 18-month deals there’s the same plan going – 900 mins, unlimited messages and 750MB – but it costs £41 a month instead. You get the same 2GB of Openzone access and the Samsung Galaxy S2 is still free.
Though available on 12-month contracts as well, there’s no plans which see you netting a free Galaxy S2.
The nearest equivalent plan gives you 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. 2GB of Openzone browsing is included, but you’ll need to pay £99 for the Galaxy S2 itself.
It’s perhaps also worth considering that Vodafone is running a Data Test Drive plan, which ought to see you getting 3 months of unlimited internet use, whichever of these three plans you opt for. [link]
Tesco Mobile (which uses O2’s signal) is offering the Samsung Galaxy S2 for free on a £30 24 month plan that gets you 750 minutes, 5000 texts and 500MB of data. You can increase the data bundle to 1GB by adding an extra £2.50 a month.
There are no 18-month plans, but there is a 12-month deal going. This gives you 500 minutes, 5000 texts and 500MB of data, but the cost of the S2 itself jumps to £380. [link]
On Virgin Mobile (which uses both Orange and T-Mobile’s signal) you can snap up the Samsung Galaxy S2 free on a £40.99 24-month contract. This will get you 500 minutes, 2500 texts and 500MB of internet.
On 12-month plans the best value deal looks to be a £27.99 plan giving you 300 minutes, 250 texts and 2.5GB of data. You’ll need to pay £299.99 for the Galaxy S2 itself but that’s a pretty generous amount of data for a 12 month contract. [link]
Carphone Warehouse is selling Samsung Galaxy S2’s on Orange and Vodafone contracts starting at £26 a month on a 24-month deals. These give you 400 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB of data and 100 minutes, 500 texts and 250MB of data respectively. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is included free in both deals.
For a little more you can pick up a free Samsung Galaxy S2 on O2 via Carphone on a £27 24-month deal, giving you 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. [link]
Phones 4U’s contract deals offer the Samsung Galaxy S2 free on Orange for £28.50 a month, which gets you 600 minutes, 3000 texts and 500MB of data on a 24 month plan.
On O2 you can get a free S2 on a 24 month plan getting you 300 minutes, 3000 texts and 500MB of data for £32 a month.
Vodafone deals via Phones 4U which get you a free Galaxy S2 include a £26 deal where you get 300 minutes, 3000 messages and 500MB of internet use. [link]

So on average you’re looking to be spending something in the region of £26-£30 to get a Galaxy S2 free on a 24 month contract with 500MB of data.
If you want a bit more data a month you’re either going to have to spend a bit of money – in the case of O2 and Tesco Mobile, £4 and £2.50 a month.
Three (and eventually T-Mobile) offer(s) the Samsung Galaxy S2 on an unlimited data plan in the regions of £33-£36 a month. So if you’re going to be surfing the web, downloading plenty of apps and want to use your S2 as a tethered Wi-Fi hotspot then this is what you’ll be looking to pay on a 24-month plan.
On 18 month plans you’ll be looking to pay in the areas of £30-£40 a month. For 12 plans, you’ll need to keep a bit of cash spare, from £99 to £300.
