Samsung Galaxy S3 quad-core Exynos benchmarked

Samsung have just published information on their latest ARM-based mobile chipset, the Exynos 4 Quad. The company state the the processor’s key strengths lie in its quad-core CPU and 3D performance, as well as excellent low level power consumption.

There’s little doubt in our minds that this will be the chipset to grace the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3, but the company are promoting it for use in a number of other applications too, from tablets to DSLRs.

Compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 4 Dual found in the Samsung Galaxy S2, the 4 Quad offers up double the number of cores and the 32nm thick design is said to make it 20% more efficient too. According to GSMArena.com, its power management talents come courtesy of some smart power gating and frequency and voltage scaling on each core, which Samsung say will result in 20% greater power efficiency over the previous 45nm Exynos generation.

There’s no official word on the graphical potential of this new chipset, aside from Samsung’s brief reference to its 3D talents and that it will be great for gaming. So with only leaked benchmarks to go by so far it’s all ears to the ground until Wednesday.
