Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini latest leak victim

Specs for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini have leaked online, revealing it as a mid-range 4.5-inch handset.

Given the current craze for ‘mini’ versions of flagship phones, we’d have been floored if Samsung wasn’t working on a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. Indeed, we’ve already had plenty of S5 Mini rumours. Well, thanks to the wonders of the interwebs, we know it to be true – and can reveal it’s a 4.5-inch mid-ranger packing typically slashed specs over the original 5.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S5 (you seen our full and exclusive in-depth review yet?)

SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 MINI SPECS LEAKED ONLINE

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will pack a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, a bit smaller than the original Galaxy S5’s display and with a cut-down resolution too (1080p is trimmed to 720p). Even the marvellous Sony Xperia Z1 Compact toned the sharpness back to 720p, as full 1080p is kind of wasted on any screens smaller than five inches, so we’re expecting crisp and vibrantly colourful visuals from the Galaxy S5 Mini.

You also get full Android KitKat 4.4, presumably with Samsung’s latest TouchWiz slathered on top. We’re expecting all the same features as found on the Galaxy S5, including S Health and the new Magazine UX interface.

Sadly the other specs have been predictably slashed, with the 16-megapixel camera bumped to an 8-meg snapper. There’s no word on which Snapdragon processor is stashed inside the Galaxy S5 Mini, but we’d expect a less powerful quad-core chipset.

There’s also no news on whether the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor have survived the miniaturisation process, but we’re predicting the fingerprint scanner at least will be trimmed. That said, the Galaxy S5 Mini should be fully water resistant like its bigger brother.

Other leaked specs include 16GB of built-in storage (we really hope there’s a microSD slot), a 2,100mAh battery and 1.5GB of RAM. No mention of pricing and availability yet, but expect news in the coming month.
