Next month Samsung is expected to launch its latest premium iPad-smasher, the ridiculously-slim-and-light Galaxy Tab S2, following on from last year’s excellent Galaxy Tab S. Here’s why the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will be one of the best tablets of 2015.
Like last year’s offering, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 will come in two sizes: the dinkier model will come packing an 8-inch screen and the larger version will sport a 9.7-inch display. Both will be Super AMOLED, so expect bright, vivid colours as usual.
The Galaxy Tab S2 will also be impressively thin and light in both guises. The smaller 8-inch model will tip the scales at just 260g, which is considerably lighter even than the iPad Mini 3 (331g), while the larger 9.7-inch version will weigh-in at 407g, lighter than the iPad Air 2. Incredibly, both devices will also be just 5.4mm thick, making them slimmer than almost every other mobile device around.
That doesn’t mean Samsung has paid little attention to the internals, of course. You can expect Samsung’s 64-bit Exynos chipsets to run the show, using the big.LITTLE system, and a six-core Mali-T760MP6 GPU, which should deliver solid visual performance for your games, media editing and everything else. Backed up by 3GB of RAM, we’d be surprised to see a single stutter on these things.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 tablets will also come packing 32GB of storage and a microSD slot, allowing you to add more space as and when you need it.
We’re still not sold on roaming around town taking snaps with a tablet, but if you really must, the Galaxy Tab S2 will likely pack an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facer. And going on Samsung’s track record, they should both be capable of producing reasonable images.
Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop) is of course the OS of choice, along with the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, as found on the Galaxy S6. And as you’d expect, the tablets will come in a choice of Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and LTE for each screen size, so there will be four models in all to choose from.
Samsung shoud be launching the new Galaxy Tab S2 tablets in June and we already can’t wait, as they sound ideal for pretty much every type of user, from the security-conscious and power-hungry business man/woman to anyone demanding the best possible mobile entertainment experience.
