Samsung Galaxy Young and Galaxy Fame announced: Pint-sized, affordable and Jelly Bean

Samsung has introduced two new additions to its Galaxy range of smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Young and Samsung Galaxy Fame run Android Jelly Bean and look to be affordable alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.

If there has ever been a company who can’t sit still, it’s Samsung. The Korean mobile giant has created an increasingly granular device portfolio year on year, which as of 2011/2012, had something for every conceivable type of smartphone user. With 2012/2013 now upon us, it’s simply a case of updating their current portfolio, by introducing a few new features and reinforcing the newer design language which took shape with the Samsung Galaxy S3 in March last year.

Samsung has confirmed both phones arrive in the UK in March, we’ll bring you more news on pricing and availability when we get it.

What operating systems do the Samsung Galaxy Fame and Galaxy Young run?

Being part of the latest family of handsets, both Galaxys come running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but naturally they feature Samsung’s own TouchWiz Nature UX overlay, which if the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is anything to go by, should offer a far deeper experience over previous low-end Samsung Androids.

What are the alternatives?

Aside from each other, there are a handful of low-end droids which would serve as fitting alternatives. Handsets from Samsung’s own lineup from the previous year like the Samsung Galaxy Ace or Mini might be worth a look, not to mention the ZTE Kis, HTC Desire C and the Motorola Motosmart.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Fame and Galaxy Young cost?

Pricing for both handsets has yet to be confirmed.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Fame and Galaxy Young launch?

There’s no set arrival time for either handset but our suspicions are that they won’t arrive until after MWC at the end of the month. Some markets can also expect dualSIM variants too.

UPDATE: Samsung has confirmed both phones will be available in the UK in March.
