Samsung Windows 8 tablets coming second half of 2012

Samsung has confirmed that its first tablets to be running the Windows 8 operating system will be available in the second half of 2012.

Bloomberg reports Uhm Kyo Ho Samsung’s head of sales and marketing has confirmed the company will be shipping a touchscreen computer which will apparently be a modified version of the Series 7 computer, but that it will be running Windows 8.

In an interview in Seoul he said that Samsung will be targetting business users with the device, who need to be able to produce documents and spreadsheets on a device with the portability of the iPad or Android tablets.

Windows 8  tablets were first  unveiled at the Windows Build conference earlier this year, at the time Microsoft handed out 5000 Samsung tablets running Windows 8 to developers to try and encourage app development. On display then were Nvidia, Qualcomm and Broadcomm protypes, alongside Samsung.

We had some hands-on time with the Samsung tablet at Build, which had an 11.6-inch screen and 4GB RAM, although it’s possible the hardware may change before launch.

The interface looks very similar to that used on Windows Phone handsets, with a selection of tiles for accessing features and applications.

There’s no official news on when the tablet will actually arrive, but we’ll bring you news as soon as we get it.
