Each day until Christmas we’re picking some of our favourite apps to make the festive season a little easier. Today we’re looking at Shopitize a shopping app with accompanying website that can save you money on your food shopping.
Available for Android and iOS, Shopitize lets you get cashback when you buy groceries from UK supermarkets. Scan the barcode on the product, then when you’ve finished shopping photograph your receipt using the app. Once you’ve saved £5 in Rewards you can transfer the cash to your PayPal account or claim a cheque.
The Shopitize app lists current offers, along with the discount, approximate price and participating supermarket. During our time using the app there was around 23 offers, including: £1 cashback on a pack of Pringles, 60p cashback on a four pack of Android Toilet Tissue, £1 cashback on a bottle of Diet Coke and £2 cashback on a fresh or frozen Turkey.
All products listed as brand names and all mainstream – interestingly it seems more cashback is available on low-value articles, such £1 on a can of Red Bull. Not every offer is available at every supermarket though, but Asda, Waitrose, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Tesco all feature – if you are a savvy shopper and tie it in with supermarket offers, savings are even more significant. Share offers with friends via Twitter or Facebook and you’ll get higher discounts.
The app has recently been updated with improvements to the UI and new sorting options and we’ve no complaints about its usability – with plenty of instructions and guidance on taking photographs – it’s certainly one of the most user-friendly cashback apps we’ve used.
If you’ve got a PayPal account and do your supermarket shopping in-store, Shopitize is an essential download. It could do with a few more offers, but give it a try over Christmas to see how much you’ll save, and in future check it before you shop and you’ll find yourself effortlessly saving money.
