Skype for Windows Phone finally here in Beta form

Microsoft promised us Skype for Windows Phone, and it’s finally here. The app isn’t finished yet and holds the coveted “Beta” status, but we’ll take that over nothing right now.

Right now the app is as you would expect – Skype, but with the Metro interface. If you were expected features to be fully baked into Windows Phone itself, then you’re in for a disappointment – according to rumours, that won’t be coming until later on.

The current beta will allow you to place calls over WiFi and 3G, browse and manage your contacts, and use the standard chat functions, either person-to-person, or as a group.

If you want to try out the Skype beta for Windows Phone, head on over to the Windows Marketplace. You’ll need a Windows Phone (obviously) running Mango to get in on the action. Right now support is confirmed for the Nokia Lumia 800, the Lumia 710, and the HTC Titan and Radar. Check out the video below to see it in action.
