Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara is set to star in her own reality show, which will air exclusively on Snapchat’s Discover portal.
The Colombian actress will front a six-episode series called Vergaraland, which will let viewers see her through the eyes of her 24-year old son, Manolo González Vergara, and promises not to take itself too seriously.
The show will be shot vertically, to fit in with the signature Snapchat style, and will be produced by both the actor’s own Latin World Entertainment and Fusion, one of the service’s launch partners.
Speaking to Fusion, Vergara said: “Manolo finally graduated, and I am very happy for his alliance with Fusion to create such an innovative series.”
Fusion’s CEO, Isaac Lee, said: “Sofia Vergara is undoubtedly one of the most successful television actresses today, and she is also an incredible business woman, entrepreneur and loving mother.”
Discover, which launched in January, lets users view snippets from the news and other content providers in the familiar Snapchat format, after 24-hours the short clips disappear, replaced by fresh, new content.
The system has already proven popular and is routinely used by the likes of CNN, Vice and National Geographic. US carrier AT&T also recently partnered with YouTube-based VFX gurus Corridor Digital to create Snapper Hero; a Snapchat-based episodic series which featured popular YouTube and Vine celebs acting superhero for the camera.
The addition of well-established stars to the ranks is only likely to buoy Discover’s popularity, as the channel seeks to be taken seriously in an increasingly crowded market.
Perhaps the biggest surprise to come from the news though, is that Sofia Vergara has a 24-year old kid.
We’re going to nip off and let that sink in for a little while.
