Social Interlock app saves you from your drunk mobile status updates

The best thing about your mobile phone is it’s always with you, giving you instant access to your social networks at the touch of a button, wherever you are.

However, when you’ve been out on the beers/cocktails/meths (delete as appropriate), the worst thing about your mobile phone is it’s always with you, giving you instant access to your social networks at… Well, you get the picture.

Drunk tweeting and status updating is usually harmless, but can blow up in your face. A new iPhone and Android app called Social Interlock aims to save you from your drunk self, however.

It’s simple: getting you to take a motor skills test when sober, and then allowing you to ‘lock’ the app before heading out on the town. If you can’t get a good enough score on the same test, it won’t let you update Facebook, Twitter or MySpace.

We like the idea, but there’s a downside: it relies on you replacing any other Facebook, Twitter and MySpace apps on your handset. And given the power features in the Facebook and Twitter official apps particularly, that’s a course of action that we can’t see appealing to many people.

Still, if your boozy updates have really landed you in trouble, Social Interlock might be a solution. That said, it can’t do anything about you drunk-texting your ex…
