Sony Ericsson Xperia Active: What’s in the box?

The Xperia Active is a different type of handset for Sony Ericsson. As well as running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it’s also dust proof and water resistant, which means you can use it in the rain or on a beach, without worrying about it getting damaged.

Wet-finger tracking ensures the 3-inch touchscreen continues to work even when your fingers are wet – we tried it out at a Sony Ericsson demonstration and it remained surprisingly responsive.

Sony Ericsson’s also pitching the Active as a sports phone, and it includes a selection of apps to help improve fitness, along with a wrist strap and stereo headset so you can listen to tunes on the Active as you exercise.

Measuring 92x55x16.5mm, the Xperia Active is unobtrusive enough to sit in a pocket or bag and comes with a extra cover you can swap, if you fancy a change.

Elsewhere there’s a 5-megapixel camera, which also capture 720p HD video, it also includes an LED flash and bright f/2.6 aperture for shooting at low light.

There’s a rather disappointing 320Mb available internal memory, although Sony Ericsson includes a 2GB micro SD card for storing pictures etc.

We’ll bring you a full review of the Xperia Active over the next few days, but here’s a look at what’s in the box.

The back of the phone is swappable, with an extra back included in the box. There’s a removable plastic layer (top right) between the battery and the case offering extra protection against water

Charge the phone using microUSB. The supplied headphones look to be marginally better than those typically supplied with mobile phones, but a 3.5mm jack, means you can use your own

Use these buttons to adjust the volume and take a picture. They’re made of plastic and feel a little cheap

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active: wrist strap

Suppled with the Active is a sports armband, which you can use for running or walking. The controls still work through the plastic and attaches to your arm using velcro
