Sony LT29i ‘Hayabusa’ photos appear

Leaked pictures have appeared showing the Sony LT29i, which appears to be the international version of the Japan-bound Sony Xperia GX, codenamed ‘Hayabusa.’

The Hayabusa snapped here and sent into XperiaBlog.net looks very similar to the GX, although lack of carrier branding anywhere on the phone, provides more clues to its international aspiration. Despite using Japanese firmware, this is likely an older prototype due to the ‘Sony Ericsson’ logo still positioned above the display (unlike the GX). It appears to be one of the first Sony handsets to shun the use of capacitive or hardware buttons in place of onscreen keys for the back, home and app drawer functionality.

We saw a little leaked information surround the Hayabusa earlier this year, with a quick shot of the device’s back, courtesy of ‘Mr Blurrycam’ and a video sample of its camera’s HDR video functionality. It wasn’t until the GX was properly outed for Japanese carrier DoCoMo that we truly saw what the device had to offer.

The Sony Xperia GX is said to offer a 4.6-inch 720p HD LCD panel, a 13-megapixel camera with full HD 1080p video at 30fps and includes the aforementioned HDR video mode too. It also makes use of a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, backed up by 1GB of RAM and offers 16GB of onboard user storage.

We’ll keep our finger on the pulse with this one, as an international version of the GX would be a welcome successor to the Xperia S/SL, especially if Sony intends to push the notion of on-screen keys, an aspect we love.
